Sofia Benitez

Hola a todos, my name is Sofia Benitez. I am majoring in Aquatic Biology, and I’m from Tequila, Jalisco, Mexico. Yeah, that’s the actual name of my little town. I am most passionate about marine conservation, chemical oceanography, and evolution. In my free time, I enjoy reading historical fiction and non-fiction novels, as well as watching Marvel movies.

I'm a first-generation student, and I've made my way here from Mexico to pursue a B.S. in Aquatics Biology. I'm an incoming sophomore, passionate about all the organisms and ecosystems in our aquatic environments, with a focus on conservation and evolution. I'm fascinated by the thought that there are still many marine species we have yet to discover. Sadly, we often fail to protect the species we already know. Supported by the resources and guidance of the FUERTE Program, I aim to drive change by advocating for improved regulations in marine and environmental conservation policy. By combining my knowledge of Aquatic Biology with effective policy strategies, I intend to safeguard and preserve marine life and ecosystems.
