FUERTE Research

The FUERTE program offers students numerous opportunities to gain experience with field-based research. For each fellow this begins with a summer field trip to the Sierra Nevada Aquatic Research Laboratory (SNARL). During their second summer fellows participate in an 8-week research experience where they hone in on their specific research interests.

SNARL Projects

One of our goals during our annual FUERTE field trip at SNARL is to establish long-term place-based datasets where our new fellows can learn about data collection and analysis. Projects range from tracking white bark pine health to examining mammal habitat use. Explore some of our SNARL projects!

Summer Research Experience

During their second summer FUERTE Fellows participate in a summer research experience with a UCSB mentor. Students learn from experts in different fields, refining their research skills while learning about areas of science they find most interesting.
